Central PA Pride is especially seeking volunteers to serve as Silent Witness Peacekeepers. The Silent Witness Peacekeepers Alliance (SWPA) is an organization of gay and straight allies dedicated to providing a non-confrontational buffer between the LGBTQIA+ community and those who would protest LGBTQIA+ events. As peacekeepers—not counter-protesters—the Alliance protects everyone’s rights to free speech and organizing by providing visual protection using their bodies and rainbow umbrellas as shields. As a volunteer with the SWPA at the Pride Festival of Central PA, you will be trained in non-confrontation techniques during a two-hour training in early July. This training can prepare you to volunteer at Central PA Pride or any other protested event requiring Silent Witness assistance. You can learn more about the SWPA here.
